TMG-234 is a new initiator in Poly-e-Caprolactone production

TMG-234 (Dibutyltin maleate) is a one of the organotin catalysts in our product portfolio. TMG-234 has been widely utilized as a PVC heat stabilizer and also an excellent catalyst in esterification and transesterification reaction.

TMG-234 is recently employed as an initiator in the production of poly-e- Caprolactone (PCL) in ring opening polymerization of e- Caprolactone.

Poly-e-Caprolactone:
Poly-ε-caprolactone (PCL) is one of the most important industrial polyesters that finds versatility of applications in Cast & TPU Elastomers, adhesives, coatings, resin intermediates, medicine, pharmacy, electronics, and packaging.

The physical, thermal and mechanical properties of PCL depend on its molecular weight and its degree of crystallinity.

The proven efficiency of TMG-234 in PCL production:
In general, four main mechanisms for the Ring-opening polymerization (ROP) of lactones exist, and they depend on the catalyst: anionic, cationic, monomer-activated, and coordination-insertion of ROP.

Tin metal-based catalysts usually follow the coordination-insertion mechanism and complete the PCL polymerization and have been industrially accepted due to their commercial availability, efficiency, and solubility. TMG-129, Bu4Sn, and Bu3SnOBu intermediates have been utilized with alcohol in PCL production over the decades. However, each catalyst has its drawbacks and advantages. The new emerging initiator of TMG-234 would have been the solution for future PCL production. In the above plot, we have compared and clearly shown the advantages of the TMG-234 initiator.
